DIY Bath bombs: Drench Yourself in Magic

Baths were never really my thing…until I discovered the wonderful world of bath bombs. They’re colorful, sweet smelling and fairy-like.  Sometimes containing rose petals, glitter, and a slew of other magical things that, quite honestly, I would kill to be soaking naked in, I knew I needed them in my life. But as much as I wanted to indulge in them, I couldn’t help but notice they always seem to boast a price tag that seems a little absurd for what you’re really getting. Especially when you can just make them yourself! So here’s how to get all the zen and magic of bath bombs without the elite prices!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of Baking Soda
  • ¼ cup of Cream of Tartar
  • ½ cup of Corn Starch
  • ½ cup of  Epsom salt (I used lavender but you choose!)
  • 4 tablespoons of Essential oils (I used Lavender)
  • 1 tablespoon of Vegetable Oil
  • 4 drops of Food Coloring
  • 2 tablespoons of Water (add accordingly)

Step 1: Using a whisk, mix the baking soda, cream of tartar, corn starch, and epsom salt into a medium sized mixing bowl. I used scented epsom salt because it was all I could find at my local supermarket but you can use unscented as well and any combination of essential oils you’d like!

Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix the essential oils, vegetable oil, and food coloring.

Step 3: Take both mixtures and blend them! Adding a little water here and there may help the mixing process move a little faster.

Step 4: Once the mixture is coarse, colored, scented, and able to stick together – you’re done! I used silicone ice trays from IKEA. They come in cute shapes like the hearts and flowers I have shown here, but you can use anything you’d like to shape your bath bombs.

Step 5: When beginning the shaping process, you can now add in anything else you’d like. I had some dried rose petals lying around. Always a nice touch!

Step 6: I placed mine in the freezer overnight (about 7 hours), and the next morning, the bath bombs were ready to go!

Everything you need for these fun and relaxing bath bombs can be purchased at a grocery store. You may even have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already! Store them in plastic Ziploc bags in your freezer and take them out when you’re ready for a “me” night! Affordable, fun, and easy!
